WINNERS OF THE FIRST EDITION OF THE SUSTAINABLE TOURISM MAURITIUS AWARDS 2022 UNVEILED
Port-Louis, 11th May 2022 – The winners of the first Sustainable TourismMauritius Awards 2022 were crowned last night at Ravenala Attitude, Balaclava.
The Sustainable Tourism Mauritius Awards 2022 is an initiative of theTourism Authority, under its project Sustainable Island Mauritius (SIM),which is co-funded by the European Union.
“The winners are rewarded for keeping sight of their aspirational, actionable sustainability goals in their leisure, hospitality, offerings, and operations while also being instrumental in COVID-19 crisis recovery. By recognising outstanding and passionate individuals and organisations that strive for excellence through their engagement in sustainability and green initiatives, we want to inspire other industry members to raise the level of their game, so that, together we can make Mauritius a great and green destination for our visitors and a great home for our people,” stated the Chairman of the Tourism Authority, Mr. Avinash Gopee.
For this 1st edition of the Sustainable Tourism Mauritius Awards, the organising committee received over 115 applications while the panel of juries, consisting of academics, professionals of the industry, lectures, and journalists, under the chairmanship of Dr Robin Nunkoo, had the difficult task of selecting only 20 candidates as finalists in the category Hotel & Accommodation, Tour Operator & Tour Guide, Boat & Pleasure Craft Operator, Handicraft & Local Product, and Other Business.

The Overall Top Sustainability Performer went to Attitude Group; an additional award presented to honour the organisation that our judging panel considered has dedicated itself to address the sustainable strategy as part of its daily operations.
The organising team wishes to extend its deep appreciation to its partners and sponsors; European Union, Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP) and Made In Moris for their continuous support in our sustainability journey, the MTPA, MariDeal, Mauritius Standard Bureau, Leal Energie and Torqeedo for their wonderful contribution to the winners of the awards, the Island Food Revolution, Takamaka Winery and E.C Oxenham for enabling us to introduce and showcase 100% locally sourced products throughout the evening and not to forget the meticulously elaborated menu by the Executive Chef Ravi. We also extend our appreciation to Mr. Jon Burtenshaw from Beau Design Ltd, who created the emblematic trophies made from wood that has been repurposed and collected from his woodworking shop, hotel construction sites and colonial buildings.

Improving Sustainaible Tourism In Mauritius through Greening the Value Chain of Tour Operators (SUS-ISLAND) is a Switch Africa grand project funded by the European Commission and led by Mauritius Tourism Authority. Its objective is to promote sustainaible tourism in Mauritius by demonstration and scaling up a self-sustaining mechanism for improving sustainaibility impacts along the value chain improving awareness and market of sustainaible tourism products.
